Providence Wasn’t Built in a Day

Roger Williams Park. Providence, RI.

Manchester St. Power Plant

The Manchester Street Power Plant was originally built to power the city’s electric streetcars with direct current in the year 1903. In the 1940′s the plant used was steam, by the 1960′s it used oil as well, and in the 1980′s natural gas was added to the mix. Its architecture has since been restored and it now produces 500 megawatts of electricity, nearly three times the original output. Source: Google Maps
