CSX-6207

CSX-6207

CSX 6207, a GP-40, on a light engine move (no freight cars). About to cross the US-20 bridge near MP 40 on the Worcester-Framingham line. Worcester, MA.

I used a black and white adjustment layer in Photoshop, yellow filter preset. I was pleased with the compostion. Not holding the camera straight makes the picture more dynamic I think, as though the locomotive is charging downhill.

Massachusetts and Seven Dollars a Month

54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Monument.  Boston Common, Boston, MA.

Refusing their reduced pay became a point of honor for the men of the 54th. In fact, at the Battle of Olustee, when ordered forward to protect the retreat of the Union forces, the men moved forward shouting, “Massachusetts and Seven Dollars a Month!” Unknown to them, Congress had just voted to pay colored troops the same as white troops.
